Hairdressing Council
Cutting

In the modern world we live in, bad news travels super fast, so when a client has the misfortune of using a poor quality hair stylist it reaches the general public quickly with sometimes damaging results to all local hairdressing salons.

With prevention better than cure, the general advice to anyone seeking some sort of hairdressing services, is to try and choose a State Registered Hairdresser. The United Kingdom is one of the very few countries in which anyone without registration, qualifications or even any form of recognized training can setup business and practice as a hairdresser.

The hair industry has been un-regulated since it's birth, which means there is no one person or body in a position to take action on behalf of an unexpecting consumer against poor quality or sometimes dangerous hairdressering techniques.

There is hope though, some of those practising hairdressing are officially recognized and known as 'State Registered Hairdressers'. However, there are many more unregistered stylists, the majority of whom are perfectly competent but do not always realise the importance of registering. The difficulty for the general public is recognizing and locating a state registered hairdresser or into which category an unregistered operator correctly fits.

Council are hoping the government will change the law quickly so that all hairdressers must be registered, it is, however, likely to be some years before any change is made to existing law.
